Final Blog Post

What I have learned in Best Sellers is that I like to read more then I thought. The reason I started to like reading more is, I think I read some good books that I got into making me want to keep reading those books. Another reason I started to like reading more is that I started to actually listen to what I was reading and understanding what is going on in the book instead of just reading and not paying attention to the book and after I read 10 pages not knowing what was going on, I used to do this but now Im more interested in the books I am reading. I also learned that I dont really manage my time very well. I like to be told what I have to read that day or night. I like this better because it is more organized. Since I dont manage my time well I end up having to read the book in 2 days before the project is due. This is why I like to be told what I have to read instead of doing it on my own. I also learned that I like certain genres that I didn't like before the trimester. For example I didn't think of science fiction to be that interesting but I ended up reading some science fiction novels (Divergent, Hunger Games, Catching fire) that I really enjoyed. I learned that I rwally hate short stories. I don't like short stories because they are usually very boring to me. Another reason is because it gives no time for the character to develop. Another thing I have learned is I don't like poems... well I guess I've never really liked poems before. When I envision a poem I envision a peom that rhymes some poems just tell a story and I think you could just turn that into a story instead of making it a poem. It just makes no sense to me. Also poems are usually about boring things. I have learned a lot about my self as a reader but most importantly I have started to like reading more then I used to.

Book Review: Book 3 (Angle 2)

Michael Kopaygorodsky

The book I read for my final book project was Divergent by Veronica Roth. Divergent had lots of characteristics that make it a science fiction novel. One characteristic that shows that this novel is science fiction is that it has lots of futuristic technology. A quote that shows this technology is “Waiting for us outside the cafeteria is a row of ten rooms. They are used only for the aptitude tests, so I have never been in one before.”(Divergent, page 11) The room that Beatrice is about to go into (Beatrice is the main character) is only used for the aptitude test is a futuristic technology that determines what group you are in. The five groups you can be placed in are Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Amity, and Candor. Her test results come back inconclusive meaning she is Divergent and she is not placed in any of those groups. But going back to the aptitude test we don’t have those present day nor we haven’t had them in the past making it a futuristic technology.

Another characteristic this book had to make it science fiction was it was taken place in the future. An example that supports that it was taken place in the future was the futuristic technology like the aptitude test. This futuristic technology pretty much tells you that it was taken place in the future.

There were few characteristics missing like there was no outer space involved in this novel, this is usually a big characteristic that is in science fiction novels. Although there was no outer space involved it is still science fiction because it was taken place in the future and there was futuristic technology. There is no arguing that it is not a science fiction novel.

Our group discussed what was going on in our science fiction novels and we talked about the characteristics. All of our books were taken place in the future. Some had futuristic technology. We didn’t talk about outer space really but if there books were all in the future and had futuristic technology this means they had a good science fiction novel with good traits. We (my group) talked about having other traits for a good science fiction novel but we could only think of future, technology, and outer space. Some of my group members started to like science fiction a little bit more than they used to now that they have read a good science fiction novel. I have for sure gotten to like this genre more now that I have read Divergent.

My rating for this book is 4.5 stars out of five the good part of this book is that it was full of action, suspense, and adventure which I really liked it made me just want to keep flipping pages. Another reason I liked it was because it was an easy and quick read even though it was like 500 pages, the pages were quick and the vocabulary was easy. The only downside which was a very minor downside was it was confusing at the beginning but I eventually caught on and I really liked it. I suggest any book lover to read this book.

Science Fiction

A popular author that writes science fiction books is Suzzane Collins and you might know of her very popular science fiction series The Hunger Games. I have read the first and second book of the series, I plan on reading the third book very soon. Another well known series of this genre is The Divergent series there are 3 books in the series and I am currently reading the first book and the author of this series is Veronica Roth. Another science fiction book I have read is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. All of these books are science fiction because they all have science fiction book characteristics. Some science fiction characteristics are future technology and science and all these books have these characteristics. Another big science fiction characteristic is having space in your book although none of the books I mentioned have anything to do with space it is still a big characteristic a science fiction novel could have. For example War of The Worlds by HG Wells had space involved in the novel because aliens from outer space come and try to take over the planet Earth. At first I didn't like science fiction but im changing my mind now that I am reading divergent and before I never thought the series The Hunger Games was science fiction so now Im starting to like it a lot more.

My third book will be Ender's Game but I have not yet gotten it. I am excited to read this book because from what I have heard it is full of action and action is one of my top 3 favorite genres in a book. A group of guys read it in my class for the second project and they said it was reallly good and full of action this is another reason to get me excited for the book. So instead of reading Ender's Game today since I don't have it I read a magazine for 20 minutes. It was a Sports Illustrated magazine and I read a couple articles about the Super Bowl and National Signing day which is today. Although I don't like to read that much I really like to read sports magazines and I am also very excited to read Ender's Game because I have heard a lot of good things about it.

I have discovered that I actually do like to read somewhat. I like to read now more then I did at the beggining of the trimester. I still feel drawn to sports biographies I think that genre will always be my favorite genre. Action books also draw me in, before the end of the school year I want to read at least one action book, because I've always liked action movies so Im sure I would like a good action book. At the beggining of the trimester I felt like I didn't concentrate when I read so if i read 20 pages in a book back then I wouldn't know what would be going on in those 20 pages. But now I feel like I concentrate more so I understand what happening in the book. This is one of the reasons I enjoy reading more now that Im concentrating on whats going on in the book.

Where the Wild Things are:

I read and watched the film of Where the Wild Things are I dont think the story was adapted well into the film. I say this because first of all there were cuss words in the film and I thought Where the Wild Things are is supposed to be for children. Another reason I think it didnt adapt well is because I felt like the movie was very weird and some things that happened in the movie were really weird unlike the book I felt like it was more suitable/entertaining for children. I think I am right because you hear more about the book meaning poeple like it then the film meaning people didnt think much of the film, unless it's just me. Another reason I feel that I am right is because a lot of my classmates thought the movie was weird and not as good as the book. I think the book was more entertaining for kids because it was written for if children were to read it, because it had very big font and it was a very quick read. So for my conclusion I say the book to film adaptation was not a success.

Post 5

My book is Catching Fire and I saw the movie and read the book. I was very satisfied with the movie it had a great plot and conflict also had a great solution/resolution. It kept you on the edge of your seat. The ending of this movie is the prologue of Mocking Jay which is the third movie so you want to watch the third movie even more to see what happens. But overall the movie was very good.
There are very few minor changes between the book and the movie the plot of both stays the same which I think is the biggest thing to keep the same. I wouldn't have done anything differently to the movie if I was a director because it was such a good movie all the parts were included in the movie that were neccesary.
